Is it Christmas?!

I've lost all sense of time since I started working on this painting. I forgot it was Christmas Eve! I decided to go ahead and illustrate my sketch I did. I'm pleased with it for it being my first solid illustration in about six months. I know there are areas to be worked on but it's good to be drawing again!

Tom Hulce

After going on a Netflix binge for the last day, I was inspired to draw this actor who was a rising star in the 80's with a string of films including "Animal House", "Amadeus", "Parenthood", etc. I found his looks to be interesting and wanted to draw them. I settled on a photo of him during his "Animal House" days when he would have been around 25-27.

I may paint it out. I'm not sure yet.

Practice

I decided to take a few photos of myself to practice facial drawing.

This is the first one I've finished a sketch in. It's actually kind of fun to draw yourself as a model! :-p

Sketchie Update 1

Here's an updated version of my portrait piece I'm currently working on. So far, I've overlayed the sketch with a medium brown base color, that I've been subtracting in order to create the values of where it will be lighter and darker when I add the colors on top and keep building the layers up for the portrait.

It will be different. Hmm.

Sketchie

It's been awhile since I posted here. I don't know if anyone actually reads this blog but I'm content to post my art here and let the pieces fall where they may.

I decided to get back into practicing portraiture and wanted to do a series of male portraits. I will be using references from the internet for now until I get some models lined up.

Here's the first one. I will be taking this sketch and making it into a final color illustration with revisions. I'm excited. :)

Britney Spears Cartoon

Yeah, for some reason I started to draw Britney Spears tonight.

However, this is how I see her. Not as the pop princess she makes herself out to be.

I don't hate her but I do think this is more who she really is and would rather show the world than her stage persona. Cigarettes and cut off jeans in all of their glory.

Quick Doodle

I was playing around with texture in photoshop tonight with my digital painting.

It was fun and I hope to expand on it in the future.

As far the subject, no idea where she came from. I was thinking about Clockwork Orange for some reason and eh, this is what came out.

Female Portrait #2

I decided to try painting out another portrait of a woman. This time I decided to paint Grace Park. She was also known for being Boomer/Athena on Battlestar Galactica when she first broke into the scene. I don't have much experience painting Asian features so I thought it'd be a fun challenge.

This session is the result of about 3-4 hours of digital painting.

I enjoyed it as well!

Portrait Painting Practice

I decided it had been way too long since I practiced painting a portrait digitally, or just painted in general so I picked a photo of one of my favorite actresses, Katee Sackhoff, to paint. She is also better known as "Starbuck" if you know who that is. :)

This was a 2 hour non-stop paint session. I'm very happy with how it turned out!

Sookeh

A sketch that ended up looking like Sookie Stackhouse from "True Blood".

Cute!

Random Scribbles

I took a look at my blog and realized it looked like I had given up being artist and had decided to done with the blog itself. I was distraught. Then I decided to update. I have been busy but it hasn't been on anything in particular. Just whatever came into my mind. Now I shall start buckling down and making final illustrations from some of the scribbles.

Enjoy.
