Hunky Dory

I spent over 4 hours tonight frustrated and tapping my foot against my bed frame trying to figure out what to draw for my sketchbook assignment.

I had already decided to draw men. They are one of my weak areas. Seriously. I don't do them enough. (whoa, that came wrong)

I decided to watch a clip from Battlestar Galactica and I'm like, "gasp! there he is. I would love to draw him." So I perused the interweb and found some good photos of him in various stages of clothing and positions. I'm most pleased. :)

So, here is my first comple sketch of the actor Jamie Bamber who plays Capt. Apollo on the show!

Aphrodite Alien

So, for Fantastic Illustration this quarter, it's been all about developing our characters and integrating them into the world's we've created for them. The topic was to take a myth and give it a twist.

Thus, my concept is a twist on the Greek Myth of Pandora. In my version, she is this 100% genetically created/engineered human girl who has been conditioned to act as a sleeper agent towards the Greeks. Her creators are the Gods/Goddesses and they are actually aliens from another dimension in my story. Hmm...shades of Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, etc.. but I LIKE IT.

So, here is my character sketch of Aphrodite in all her strange alien goodness. :)

A vampire's victim.

So, I decided to use the next personal focus assignment to practice and get back to doing portraits and facial expressions like I used to. I used myself as a reference for the expression but I made it not look like me enough that it works.

The topic is that she's just awoken from being dead and is like WTF about becoming a vampire.

Hope it's good.

Imaginary Friend Update

Ok, so I complained the other day about not having enough time to finish my illustration of the girl and the water serpent.

Fate granted my wish and made me sick that day so I never got to turn it in.

So, I've been taking advantage of that time and this is what I've got so far (with revisions).... :P

"War of Currency"

The topic was about diverting a currency war. Strange topic I know but it does challenge you to think of it in a visual way.

So, I decided to illustrate a woman from a country (India, in this case) who was a 'victim' of what would happen in a war over currency. It's metaphorical but I rather like the image.

It's not finished but I'm pleased with how it is turning out.

I have not worked with acrylics in a long time so it was a fun exercise getting used to the material. :)

Brainstorming and it hurts.

Hm, for the next Personal Focus assignment, I'm not sure what to do.

I've got some ideas I'm considering. Help me out maybe and suggest something/ or choose the best idea?

1. Snail Doomsday- boy riding a giant snail, killing off humans with its slimy mucus onslaught

2. The Adventures of Kitty- on the hunt for the elusive toilet paper roll. *dun dun dun*

3. Or...I dunno.

Cacti, Cactus, whatever the correct plural form is...

So yeah, finished all the assignments for Sketchbook 2.

Decided to do it all in a black marker since it was open media. I scanned all the images but they turned out crap-tastic, so here's one of them that turned out semi-decent.

It came out looking a bit tattoo-ish in the design. Cool.

There needs to be more hours in a day.....

So yeah, I've done what I can tonight with the assignment for Personal Focus.

I'm not done with it, in terms of how I want it to look but it'll have to do for today. *sigh*

No sleep makes me a bitch. Sorry folks.

Here's what I've thus far.

I wish I'd had more time so I could build it up more so it could stand as a piece without the lines. MEH.

Phoenix...I know, original right?

So, I've shelved this project for over 2 months now since the fall has started among other things. I must get back to it and finish it. I was inspired to draw a bird like creature. Twas not supposed to be a phoenix but it kept coming back to that.

Egads!

Digital Illustration/ Photoshop

Sketches to start out with.

So, I did a bunch of sketches last week that were for a class and I decided to have fun using Watercolor on my sketchbook. The paper held up pretty well and I'm happy with it. Been too long since I've used watercolor. :)
